QUEEN CREEK, AZ -- A 17-year-old girl was flown to a hospital after she struck her head on the side of a community pool in Queen Creek Tuesday afternoon, said Lt. Tamantha Villar, Pinal County Sheriffs Department. Villar said the girl was horse playing in the Indigo Sky Pool near Indigo Sky Blvd. and North Johnson Ranch Road with other teens when the incident happened. She was able to climb out and lay down next to the pool by herself, but was complaining to the lifeguard of neck pain and a headache, Villar said. Pinal County Sheriff’s Officers and Rural Metro Fire Department responded to the call at about 1:45 p.m., and decided to fly the woman to the Scottsdale Osborn Hospital by medical helicopter as a precautionary measure, officials said. Villar said flying victims of possible head or neck injuries is common because it could potentially lead to a more serious injury.
