im related to him. he does have seizures and this accident was caused by one. he was on the phone with his wife at a stop sign across from walmart. thats when he had the seizure and drove into the walmart. he did break his neck ankle and femur. he's recovering now but has many medical issues and criminal charges he has to deal with now..

lorida, I know about seizure, my brother has had them for years. If he was so bad off then he should have asked a family member to help him with a place to stay so he can continue to afford his insurance and work. I do have sympathy for his situation but also he shouldnt be putting other people at risk because of his problems...as the old saying goes "a lack of planning on your end does not constitute an emergency on mine"

devilsadvocate what you say is true, but when it comes to putting food on your table, paying utility bills, rent or mortgage payments and other necessities, its hard to say NO to personal driving or driving to keep your job, let alone trying to find medication one can afford. Its possible there was no one to get loans from to pay for his medical insurance. Seizures are transient, they come and go, no one knows for sure when they will attack. Stress is a huge factor in seisure prone people. Yes, he should have known better, but his alternative could have been much worse. However, no one was killed or severly injured, just alot of store damages and they carry very extensive insurance for just such emergancies.

Lorida it doesnt mattter if his insurance had run out. if he has a condition that he knows isnt under control then he shouldnt be driving

Maybe, his medical insurance cancelled thru his job and he just can't afford his meds. I bet once he's back on the meds again he will be able to drive, everyone needs a vehicle to get around. Lots of people recover from tumors and drive, seisures are the easiest to control with proper medication, they can certainly drive safely after that. Mass transportation is a sham in Arizona, with continuing increases and constantly deleting routes, how can anyone count on this option? Its really a shame the lengths pharmacautical companies go, to prevent Americans from obtaining cheaper drugs outside of our borders, their lobbysts are crawling in D.C. like roaches, paying off everyone. The U.S. is the only one permitting high costs of prescribed medicines, no protections at all for the average citizen, just the minorities and illegals get it all free. BTW there are no generics for some of the most expensive medications. For example, my neighbor pays $5,000 per pill to prevent ill affects from his chemo, he's had to refinance his home and now is at a loss if he doesnt get a clean bill of health. This is just one of the rip offs from the pharmacautical and medical industries. The Obama Health Care Reform will be no better, he is already made deals with insurance and pharmacautical companies that stand to make even more profits off of our bodies that will cost us dearly if we want to survive. Buyer beware of his list of "approved insurance companies" the deal is; choose one and pay up fast in the thousands, or risk a huge "tax" penalty in the thousands.

Hey I thought if you had a medical condition you weren't able to obtain a license? And since he was on the phone when this happened he intentionally was distracted so he should be made to pay for the clean-up and repair. And IMO if he had a "history" of seizures and failed to inform the DMV (or MVD whatever it's called out here) so he could (basically) illegally obtain a drivers license he should face criminal charges. He could have killed someone!!

I wondered what was going on, I thought it could be a hostage situation or something with how many cops were around, and nobody allowed to go inside the building. I am kind of pissed because I need to pick up medications and I don't know when the store will reopen.

My wife has been seizure free for a few years now (brain tumor removed within two surgeries in 2006). The state said she needed to be seizure free for 6 consecutive months before she could drive again. However, her Doctor had suggested 1 year and we followed his advice. FYI
