"I was like, 'Dude, my food? Are you kidding me?'" he said.
It was on night of May 18th when Duke said 35-year-old Donnie Ahmed walked up to him with his girlfriend at a Mesa apartment complex near Country Club Drive and McKellips Road, and demanded his fast food.
Duke said he remembers being shoved in the chest with a BB gun.
But when he wouldn't give up his wallet, he got pistol whipped knocking off his glasses.
Things turned so violent, he now has scars from 16 stitches.
"That time I was screaming and screaming," said Duke.
When investigators said Ahmed saw a security officer, he and his girlfriend took off running.
But the suspect dropped his gun and ran out of his size 12 Vans shoe, leaving it behind at the scene, according to Det. Michael Melendez of the Mesa Police Department.
Mesa police said both were key items taken into evidence.
On June 26, a crime lab alerted detectives that DNA collected from the shoe matched a known sample for Ahmed from another crime, Melendez said.
Melendez said detectives created a photo lineup and showed it to Duke, who identified Ahmed as the person who robbed him.
Detectives found Ahmed on June 30 and he was arrested.
Melendez said Ahmed admitted that he robbed and assaulted the victim and said that he lost the shoe while he was fleeing.
Ahmed was booked for armed robbery and aggravated assault.
