MESA, AZ -- On Friday, Arizona Senator John McCain met with Arizonans in Mesa for one of two town hall meetings planned for this weekend.
The senator spoke on a variety of topics and seemed to have a common theme, Americans are angry.
He started with the economy, commenting on the news that the recession is over.
"I'm sure that the recession is over on Wall Street as they are able to give out billions and billions of dollars of bonuses as they take great risks with our money which they get for free," McCain said.
He added that this was far from the reality on main street.
The main focus of dicussion was the topic the crowd wanted to talk most about, health care reform.
"This is a horrible, horrible piece of legislation," one woman said referring to the Democrats' latest reform bill, and McCain agreed.
He also shared what he'd like to see for small business.
"To be able to join together with other small businesses to negotiate with insurance companies for good policies," McCain said.
McCain says there is a major piece missing from all the health care reform bills and that is medical malpractice reform.
He also spoke about the war in Afganistan, saying he understands taking time to make a decision on war, but he believes the administration needs to act fast.
"The sooner we give them what they need in the form of resources of troops to improve the situation and stop the deterioration," he said. "The better off the men and women who are serving in the military will be."
The senator will hold another town hall in Goodyear on Saturday, at Skyway Church, 14900 West Van Buren Street beginning at 10 a.m.
