MESA, AZ -- On Wednesday, police released a sketch of a man they say assaulted a girl in her Mesa home.

Police say a man broke into the east Valley home through a doggy door and assaulted a 16-year-old girl inside on Monday afternoon.

It happened just after 4 p.m. at a house near Guadalupe and Sossaman roads in Mesa.

Investigators say the 16-year-old had just returned home from school when she found the man in a hallway of the home.

"It's kind of scary," said neighbor Melissa Leek.  "It's just down the street from where we live."

The man pushed the teen to the ground and ran off, according to police.

"I was scared," said neighbor Denise Wisener.  "It makes you feel like you don't have any control over what's going on.  You want to watch your kids more than you already do."

The mother of the victim reportedly returned home to find the 16-year-old lying on the floor face down with pain in her hip and leg.

"It's very scary," added Leek.  "I have kids who are a smiliar age."

Paramedics transported the teen to the hospital with non-life threatening injuries.

Authorities describe the suspect as a Hispanic male about 5 feet 6 inches tall and 180 pounds with short hair. He was also wearing a red hat, white t-shirt, and jean shorts.
