MESA, AZ – Maricopa County Sheriff's Office deputies found 15 pounds of methamphetamines during a traffic stop in Mesa Monday afternoon.

The discovery was made at about 3 p.m. in an older model Honda near the US 60 and Higley Road.

During a news conference, Sheriff Joe Arpaio said the car was stopped for driving erratically and making an improper lane change.

Deputies said the driver, Ruben Rivera, 39, is a Mexican national who was planning on selling the meth in Arizona.  It is unclear as to whether or not he was in the country illegally.

Rivera was arrested without incident on drug distribution charges.

Arpaio said the drugs have a street value of more than $300,000.

Two other people were inside the car but were not arrested, according to Arpaio.
