GILBERT, AZ -- Authorities say the father of a woman wanted in a series of fraudulent credit card purchases turned her in to Gilbert police.
The family of 40-year-old Delores Jean Rakow tried to persuade her to surrender when they saw surveillance photos of her on TV news shows Thursday, but she refused.
Rakow was arrested Friday in connection with an identity theft case stemming from earlier this year.
Gilbert Police Department spokesperson Lt. Hugh White said Dolores Jean Rakow was arrested by the Prescott Valley Police Department on Friday, after police got a tip from the public. It was later revealed that Rakow's father turned her in to officials.
Gilbert Police Sgt. Mark Marino said Thursday that the victim, from Massachusetts, discovered that Rakow opened a previously closed Visa credit account when a debt collection agency contacted her.
Marino said the victim ran a credit check and found her listed address was changed to one in Gilbert from her Massachusetts address.
Police say over 47 fraudulent charges occurred in Gilbert, Mesa, Tempe, Apache Junction, Prescott Valley and Mayer between June 11 and June 23, 2009.
White said pictures of Rakow were captured on surveillance cameras and helped lead to her arrest.
Rakow may be charged with forgery, theft of a credit card, fraudulent use of a credit card and ID theft, according to Marino.
