GILBERT, AZ -- A portion of Queen Creek Drive was closed for several hours Sunday due to a crash involving a fire hydrant, according to Lt. Hugh White of the Gilbert Police Department.

It happened Sunday morning on Queen Creek Road near Recker Road.

The driver was transported to Maricopa Medical Center with serious injuries, according to White.

White said alcohol may have been a factor in the crash.

Due to excessive flooding as a result of the damaged fire hydrant, Queen Creek Road was shut down in both directions between Recker and Higley roads.

By 3 p.m., DPS opened one lane in each direction.  By 7 p.m., all lanes were open.
