GILBERT, AZ -- Officials say a woman pushing her grandson in a stroller across a Gilbert street was hit and killed by a driver Friday night.

According to Gilbert Police Lt. Hugh White, the accident happened at about 8 p.m. on Warner Road between Cooper and McQueen roads.

White said the 60-year-old woman was crossing a residential street in an unmarked crosswalk when she was struck by the vehicle.

He said it did not appear that speed or impairment were factors in the accident, which is still under investigation.

The child was not hit and escaped injury.

There is no word on whether charges will be filed against the driver of the vehicle.
