CHANDLER, AZ - A man who tried to break into an east Valley business led police officers on an early morning car chase that ended in a crash, authorities say.
According to Gilbert Police spokesperson Ruben Hidalgo, one of their officers saw the suspect trying to break into a business near Higley and Queen Creek roads early Friday.
The officer apparently confronted the suspect, and that's when the suspect got into a nearby car and drove off.
Officers followed the suspect, and called in Mesa police officers to help, according to Hidalgo.
The suspect apparently started to drive erratically, and eventually hit a curb, popped his tires and ran into a wall near Baseline and Gilbert roads.
The suspect then got out of the car, ran to a nearby apartment complex and went into an apartment where he either lived or knew residents, Hidalgo said.
The suspect later gave himself up to officers.
Hidalgo said the first officer who saw the suspect said the man appeared to be impaired.
