CHANDLER, AZ -- After 16 years in the area, a controversial adult store in downtown Chandler is closing its doors.
Naughty But Nice opened in 1993 and is scheduled to shut down at the end of November.
Maria Villegas, a manager at the store, said the decision to close had nothing to do with any controversy surrounding the business.
Instead, the weak economy and a disagreement between owners led to the decision.
Since the store opened, its owners have faced criticism for opening the shop at Arizona Avenue and Boston Street, near a Chandler school.
Some parents have complained their children are exposed to inappropriate things when they visit the area at night or on weekends.
Villegas said she knows of only one complaint since the store opened, involving a provocative mannequin that was in the display window.
After hearing about the complaint, Villegas said she promptly removed the display.
A developer already has plans to remodel the space and hopes to open up a series of family friendly shops next summer.
