CHANDLER, AZ-- People began lining up for help early Monday morning outside the doors of the Chandler Salvation Army.
Monday was the first day to register for their Christmas Angel program.
"It means a lot. Without them, I don't know what I would do," Melanie Barnett said as she waited to sign up.
Registration runs through November 19th.
Organizers expect more than 1,100 families to ask for help this holiday season.
More than 2,000 volunteers are expected to help out.
"There are a lot of components involved in this program. We are in need of people who can be a great help to us," Capt. Jason Koenig said as he oversaw the operation.
Last year, the group gave out food and toys to more than 950 families.
