Whether you're at the ballpark or a barbecue, hot dogs are always on the menu.

So do you have to spend more to get the best taste? We enlisted the help of some chef's in training for this unscientific test.

Chef Mitch Becker with the Scottsdale Culinary Institute says the secret to a good dog is how you prepare it. His students are training to become chefs, but for our test, they are the judges.

We bought five popular all beef hot dog brands: Nathan's, Bar S, Oscar Meyer, Hebrew National and Ballpark. All were prepared the same way.

This was a blind taste test, but our tasters said their pallets knew the difference. Our tasters had strong opinions about the flavor and texture of the dogs.

Hebrew National came in last. Not a single vote.

Bar S, the cheapest at $3.49, tied for third, along with Oscar Meyer.

Ballpark was second at $5.49, with 26% of the votes.

The top dog was Nathans. It was the most expensive at $5.99 for an 8 pack, but was hands down the winner for the best tasting dog with 33 percent of the votes.
