The Yavapai County Sheriff's Office is crediting "Tjando" the narcotics dog for sniffing out 185 pounds of pot.
A press release Thursday said a deputy stopped a pickup on February 21st on US 93, northwest of Phoenix, when the vehicle was observed impeding the normal traffic flow and traveling well below the speed limit
The driver was identified as 21-year-old Utah resident Enrique Gonzales. While speaking with Gonzales, the deputy noticed a large external gas tank bolted to the front of the truck bed. The deputy became suspicious when he noticed there was no wiring from the gas tank and no gas pump connected to it.
The deputy then deployed "Tjando" and when the dog got close to the tank he began scratching at both corners.
The truck was then taken to a tow yard in Yarnell, where under further examination, deputies found eight bales of processed and packaged marijuane inside the external gas tank.
Gozales claimed he bought the truck last year with the tank attached and had no knowledge of the drugs found inside.
He was charged with Transportation for Sales of Marijuana along with Driving Under the Influence of a Narcotic.
