As the international community marks World AIDS Day on December 1, 2008, so does Arizona.

World AIDS Day is observed every year on December 1st.

The World Health Organization established World AIDS Day in 1988.

Planned Parenthood Arizona and Southwest Center for HIV/AIDS are participating local events to commemorate the 20th World AIDS Day.

Planned Parenthood Arizona is offering discounted HIV/AIDS testing on World AIDS Day.

On December 1, 2008, you can call 1-800-230-PLAN (7526) to make an appointment or walk-in to the health center near them to receive HIV testing for nearly half the regular price - you will only pay $46 instead of $70.

Planned Parenthood Arizona will also be participating in a couple community events.

Representatives will be at Estrella Community College in Avondale and at Arizona State University.

Southwest Center for HIV/AIDS will also participate in a local event to commemorate the 20th World AIDS Day with the World Aids Day Red Ribbon.

Representatives will be in downtown Phoenix to join residents to form a gigantic AIDS ribbon to be included into the Guinness Book of World Records.

The event will be held at Steele Indian School Park beginning at 2 p.m.

Mayor Phil Gordon is expected to attend.
