Jose Garica couldn't wait to test out his new Nike running shoes Wednesday morning.

Garica was among 600 students at Frank Elementary School in Guadalupe who were given a new pair of shoes from Chances for Children, a non profit organization.

"Our goal is to stomp out obesity in kids by giving opportunities to be active," said Janell Bolen, Executive Director for Chances for Children.

Each student was fitted with a new pair of Nike shoes purchased through Team Chances, a marathon fundraising program.

Then came the fun part, testing them out. Students ran around the school to break in their new shoes.

"They are beyond excited. They are such a deserving group of kids. They've been running every week to log their miles, so this is a big surprise for them," said Bolen.

The shoes will come in handy again for the PF Chang's Rock and Roll Marathon on January 17. The students will run one mile of the Phoenix Children's Hospital Kids Rock route.
