As long as I have lived in AZ I have spent ime in the desert.and for the last 15 or so years along with the common sense practice of not leaving anything behind,I also now try to take some thing that somebody else left.I dont complain about lousey pigs ruining my pristeen landscape,I dont chase people down and degrade them for littering,I dont try to pass the work off to the government.I just do it because I love my time in the desert.

williamwallass -your so right. But could you imagine forcing people to pick up trash after they were caught littering."I sentence you to trash pickup for 30 hours." "This stupid state is just making people pick up trash so they can save money on their new budget plan, its all a money saving scheme." Alot of people in AZ do dumb, bad, and deceptive things because they can get away with it. The punishment is worth the crime. Court system is weak, and prison/jail time is short.

Its nice that people volunteered to clean up but if police did the job that they are paid to do and they wrote tickets when they saw people litter then people wouldn't have to volunteer if we passed a law that its mandatory that people cited for littering are to put in 8 hours of community service picking up litter. I know its a difficult concept since this country is not really about commen sense and justice these days but trust me, its a good idea and I would be willing to bet my left testical that if someone had to pick up other peoples garbage for 8 hours they would probably be more conscious about not littering in the future.

Okay, wait a minute-"groups removed from the area trash including shotgun shells, TVs and computers, but volunteers also found a bowling pin, two mannequins and even a burned out piano." My first instinct said filthy illegal immigrants, but I know too damn well that no illegal immigrant (Mexican from Mexico) would own a piano, bowling pin or mannequin. Unless an illegal immigrant hired by a white person dumped it out there, it would be a shame to know that some white people were in on this.
