In a new commercial for his re-election, Maricopa County Sheriff Joe Arpaio throws two large Valley newspapers in the trash and asks voters to do the same.

The commercial starts with an image stating it’s a "report card for Sheriff Joe Arpaio."

It shows an "A" grade for crime clearance rates, response times and jail management.

The ad also gives him an "A+" grade for deporting illegal immigrants, saving taxpayers money and staying within his budget.

"You know it’s true? You can never believe everything you read," said Arpaio in the ad.  "So, when these (holds up newspapers) are delivered to your house, they belong in the trash."

He then throws the papers in the trash.

The ad is paid for by the Committee to Re-Elect Joe Arpaio 2008.

In early October, the Arizona Republic announced its support for Arpaio’s democratic opponent, Dan Saban.

In July 2008, the Tribune investigated Sheriff Arpaio in a five-part investigative series.  Click here to read the articles.
