A Scottsdale man is facing eight criminal counts, accused of stealing money from clients.
An indictment against 48-year-old Robert Huillier lists more than 50 victims in the crime that allegedly happened between 2005 and 2008.
According documents filed by Scottsdale Police, Huillier took $200,000 from a widow and promised to put some of the money into an annuity and put the rest in a trust account.
He also promised her monthly payments of more than $3,000 a month. The victim received slow payments, and payments made from bounced checks.
Scottsdale Police allege when the victim asked for her money back, he paid her with two checks that bounced.
Huillier was taken into custody last Tuesday on an outstanding warrant after a Grand Jury indicted him in December.
Police say they believe the 48-year-old used his antique appraisal business as a guise to deceive his victims.
More victims accuse Huillier of auctioning off their property and failing to give them the proceeds from the auctions, according to court documents.
According to the case summary from Scottsdale Police, another victim accuses Huillier of receiving more than 1.3 million dollars to buy estates or items from museums and then auctioning them off.
Police say Huillier had been in hiding and avoiding police last year. They received a tip he would be at an apartment complex near Hayden Road and McCormick Parkway Tuesday afternoon and that is where he was arrested.
Huillier was charged with three counts of fraud schemes and five counts of felony theft, according to police.
