Rapper DMX was sentenced Friday to jail time and supervised probation after pleading guilty to three felonies and one misdemeanor in connection with three criminal cases.

Commissioner Phemonia Miller sentenced the 38-year-old rapper, whose real name is Earl Simmons to three months in jail with no credit for time he has already served.

He was also placed on 18 months of supervised probation.

Simmons pleaded guilty in late December to:

• Theft, a class three felony
• Possession or use of Narcotic Drugs, a class four felony
• Possession or use of Marijuana, a class six felony
• Animal Cruelty, a class one misdemeanor with possession of drugs and drug paraphernalia, narcotic drug violations and animal cruelty.

As part of his probation Simmons is not permitted to own any animals or possess any firearms.

According to the County Attorney's Office, he was also ordered to complete an animal offender treatment program. If he violates probation, Simmons could be sentenced to more than 10 years in prison."

According to the Maricopa County Sheriff's Office, Simmons will be transfered to Tent City Friday afternoon.

"This guy has been in our custody for several weeks and has had problems with other inmates" Sheriff Joe Arpaio said in a written statement. "Despite that, he's going to do his time in Tent City and be treated like every other inmate. He'll wear pink underwear, a black and white striped uniform, eat the 20 cent meals, won't be able to smoke or drink coffee, watch movies or much TV and if he violates policy, he may end up on a chain gang."

Simmons was arrested on five different occasions by Sheriff's deputies for animal abuse, drug possession and defrauding the Mayo Clinic of about $7,500.00 worth of medical services, according to the statement.

Deputies confiscated a number of the rap singer's pit bull mix dogs which currently are being cared for by female inmates inside the First Avenue Jail.
