A national travel website has placed the
Phoenix Zoo among the top 10 zoos in the country, according to a Wednesday news release.
National travel web site
USA Travel Guide has listed the Phoenix Zoo as #4 on a list of the Top Ten Zoos in America.
The rankings of the top ten zoos were revealed last week, according to the news release.
"As one of the largest non-profit zoos in the United States, the Phoenix Zoo is a must for family vacations in Phoenix or pretty much anyone who likes to enjoy a laidback afternoon," according to blogger Steven Mayo of the USA Travel Guide. "Also unusual, the wide sprawl of the park allows for rollerblades and bicycles. It’s not just a place to see amazing sights; it’s a great place to work out!"
The Phoenix Zoo was listed behind the Columbus Zoo, San Diego Zoo and Lion Country Safari in West Palm Beach, Fla., but ahead of other well-known zoos such as the Cincinnati Zoo (#7), Disney’s Animal Kingdom (#8) and Audubon Zoo in New Orleans (#10).
"We are very pleased to achieve this ranking and be mentioned among the best zoos in the country," said Phoenix Zoo President/CEO Bert Castro. "We have been working very hard to continue to improve the Zoo and it’s is gratifying to be recognized for those efforts."
The Phoenix Zoo’s ranking is certainly no surprise to the 1.5 million guests who visit annually, according to the news release. Nearly 23,000 people enjoyed the Presidents Day Weekend at the Zoo, despite competition from NBA All-Star Weekend activities in downtown Phoenix.
"With the variety of experiences that we can offer, you just can’t find a better way to spend the day with the family, Castro says."
