An elderly hiker died Tuesday morning on Piestewa Peak.
Phoenix firefighters said the man, in his 80s, was with a seniors hiking group on Squaw Peak Drive. He reportedly had a pre-existing condition.
A fire department official said the group had climbed up about 300 yards when the man said he was feeling short of breath and fell down.
Other hikers and fire department personnel tried to revive the victim but he never recovered. He was pronounced dead at the scene.
Officials said it was the group’s last hike of the season.
