An eight-year Mesa police veteran is facing criminal charges for crashing his personal vehicle into a Gilbert fountain on December 5, 2008.

Brent Frasier is accused crashing the vehicle into the landscaped water fountain area at the Gilbert Town Square near Gilbert Road and Civic Center Drive.  He was off-duty during the accident.

A Gilbert police report shows Frasier is accused of fleeing the scene and leaving behind his gun, his police badge, and an AR15 (rifle) magazine in the vehicle.

According to the police report, Frasier initially told police he had loaned his car to his brother.

The report indicates he told officers, "He had received a call from his brother telling him he had hit something and the vehicle was stuck and Brent needed to come and assist him with the vehicle."

Later, Gilbert police say, Frasier recanted that story.

According to the report, "it was confirmed that Brent Frasier voluntarily admitted to having driven his vehicle into the water fountain area causing damage and then leaving the scene prior to police contact as he had been drinking (alcohol). "

Authorities are now charging Frasier with criminal damage and providing false information to law enforcement.
