Starting January 1, 2009, a license plate frame could cost some drivers big bucks, too.
The state passed a new law requiring the word Arizona, at the top of license plates, be clearly visible.
Many drivers have a license plate frame from their car dealership. Others have one showing their support for their favorite sports team. Often, the frames completely or partially cover the word Arizona.
Fines vary from city to city. However, the average ticket will cost $140 plus court costs.
The state passed the law to help law enforcement officers see the state of the plate. It's expected to help increase the safety of officers and help save time on traffic stops.
