A Mesa woman was sentenced to 10 years probation on Monday for beating her step-daughter.

Kristie Hazell pleaded guilty to child abuse for beating the five year-old.

Police said Hazell and her husband Ezra Hazell beat the girl inside their Mesa home in October 2007.

Authorities said Ezra Hazell admitted beating his daughter with a belt while she was in a push-up position with her pants down because she wasn't doing her homework.

The girl was hit so many times, investigators say she had more than 100 bruises on her body.

The child told a school nurse what happened and the nurse called police who arrested the couple.

Two other children in the home were not hurt.

All the girls were placed with other relatives.
