At about 8 p.m., firefighters responded to the fire at a home near Lindsay Road and University Drive.
Investigators said a family friend witnessed smoke and flames coming from the garage area and alerted those inside.
Everyone made it out safely.
While firefighters battled the flames, a female fire captain reportedly received minor burns to her forehead through her helmet. She did not need to be transported to a hospital for treatment.
Family members will be staying with friends, according to investigators.
The cause of the fire remains under investigation. A damage estimate was not released Wednesday night, but firefighters said half the home received significant damage.
The homeowner told firefighters she had put Christmas lights up earlier in the day. The electrical cord extended into the garage area, and she wondered if it was the source of the fire.
