A 37-year-old undocumented immigrant who repeatedly used a false social security number has pleaded guilty to multiple charges related to identity theft, Maricopa County Attorney officials announced Thursday.
Adan Betanicio Guerrero accepted one count of taking the identity of another and second count of fraudulent schemes and artifices - both class four felonies.
Guerrero's accused of using another person's social security number to buy a $33,000 truck.
At the time of his arrest, he told police that they should be arresting real criminals and not a good family man, according to a statement from the county attorney's office.
Guerrero was caught after the credit union preparing his car loan noticed that they had another customer with the same social security number.
After further investigation, police found Guerrero had repeatedly used the number.
Since 2001, he purchased two cars on credit with the identity, officials said.
Guerrero also had more than $787,000 in loans under the social security number.
He will be sentenced February 11.
Guerrero faces at least two-and-a-half years in jail, officials said.
