Roger Heath lives at the Hayden Square condos near 5th Street and Ash Avenue right along the path of the light rail.
"When they stop they squeal their brakes and then it is 'ding ding ding, beep beep beep," Heath said. "It will drive you nuts because right when you think you are going to sleep, here comes another train."
Watch home video of a light rail train passing in the early morningLight rail spokesperson Hillary Foose says she is aware of the complaints both in Tempe and from residents who live along Central Avenue near Encanto.
"Our safety guidelines ask the drivers to use the bells when they make significant movement like when they leave the station or an intersection," Foose said.
Foose says they are in the process of doing a noise assessment of the situation in Tempe and in the Phoenix areas where they've had similar complaints.
"Metro is trying to find that delicate balance between public safety and the surrounding community and the rights they have to peace and quiet," said Foose.
Heath told ABC15 the noise has been unbearable because the light rail passes by every few minutes and runs early in the morning and late at night.
He says that after putting up with the light rail construction noise for so long, this is too much to endure.
"I want this to succeed and all," he said. "But I want to be able to live a normal life."
Light rail officials were unable to give a timeframe for when the assessment would be complete and how quickly changes or improvements would be implemented
