Sheriff's Office authorities have confirmed the identity of a man shot in the chest at the front door of his Scottsdale home Wednesday night.

Authorities said 38-year-old Conor FitzSimons was shot near 136th and Rio Verde drives just before 10 p.m.

The suspect apparently knocked at the victim's door and asked to borrow a cordless phone to make a phone call.

When FitzSimons got the phone and walked back to the door, he was shot by the suspect, according to the Maricopa County Sheriff's Office.

According to a family friend, the victim is the grandson of Hollywood actress Maureen O'Hara.

When asked about FitzSimmons' relationship with O'Hara, a neighbor, who did not wish to be identified, said, "I had seen her one time in the backyard and you know it was kind of funny."

Jim LeDune of Jiminey Kricket Pest Control said he's known and worked for FitzSimons for 10 years.

Detectives and Scottsdale police surrounded the lavish home for hours.

"I'm just shocked. My heart just goes out to him because he's been a customer and friend for a very long time," said LeDune.

Detectives do not have a description of the armed suspect, but searched a wooded area near the property.

It's unclear whether the shooting was random or if FitzSimons was targeted. He was airlifted to a local hospital in serious condition.

LeDune said FitzSimons recently added a fence to his property following a break-in at his home.

"He had some extra rod iron fence put up," added LeDune who said FitzSimons was well liked. "I don't know that anyone ever disliked him."

FitzSimons, according to LeDune, told him he was about to start working at a North Scottsdale beauty salon.

"When you get to know someone it's almost like they become an extended part of your family," said LeDune.

Maricopa County Sheriff's detectives are actively working this shooting investigation and ask anyone with information to call 602.876.1011.
