Photo-Radar has been popping up as fast as mushrooms along Valley freeways and it's driving many drivers mad.

Dozens of them gathered outside of Redflex's headquarters in north Phoenix Wednesday to voice their disapproval.

Redflex runs the Photo Radar cameras.

Since the camera's started operating in late October, Redflex reports 40,000 speed tickets have been issued bringing in a total $6.6 million.

Protesters question whether the cameras are in place for safety or just a way for the state to bring in revenue, rather than balance the budget.

"This kind of thing is getting out of control," said Brian Schraver as he walked with protesters. "We accept these cameras now, we're just gonna accept more in the future. We just keep appeasing and allowing, appeasing and allowing, and God knows where it will end."

But Redflex's Director of Government Affairs, Jay Heiler, defended his company and it's cameras.

"We provide technological support that makes it much more safe, much more cost effective to enforce traffic laws to slow people down, prevent red light running," said Heiler.  "It's a very valuable service."

Heiler added, "Nobody likes traffic enforcement, even if live police officers give the ticket, nobody's turning a cartwheel on the way home".

Protesters are hoping their voice will be heard loud enough to get the cameras off the freeways.
