A restaurant, farmer's market and a retail store are being planned for a historic building just south of downtown Phoenix this year.
The Phoenix Business Journal is reporting that the warehouse at the corner of Central Avenue and Lincoln Street, built in 1928, is being transformed into what will be called The Duce.
It's being called that in honor of the many produce markets that once defined the area.
Back in 1928, the area was a bustling produce district by day. After dark, it became an area known for jazz clubs, speakeasies, gambling joints and other establishments catering to the locals and tourists.
The store, called R&R Surplus, is open now by appointment only. The food market is expected to open up in October, and create a few dozen jobs.
