A father and son were rushed to the hospital in critical condition after being shot Thursday night.

Police said the two were part of a group of five in a Chevrolet El Camino when they got into an altercation with another person at a Shell gas station at 43rd Avenue and McDowell Road.

The El Camino left the gas station and started heading north on 43rd Avenue when shots were fired at the car multiple times, striking the father and son.

Police and medics responded to the victims at 43rd Avenue and Thomas Road.  It does not appear the other three people inside the car were injured.

However, at this point, detectives do not know if those inside the El Camino were actually shooting as well.

"We don't know who the suspect or suspects are, we just don't know yet," said Phoenix Police Sergeant David Rath. "We only have half of the story and that's coming from the five people who were in the El Camino."

Rath said detectives had recovered surveillance video from the gas station that shows the altercation.

"It's good quality and we believe it will be beneficial in catching the others involved in this incident," said Rath.

The father and son went into surgery Thursday night and were listed in critical condition according to police.

Officers blocked off 43rd Avenue between Encanto Boulevard and Thomas Road for several hours as they walked along the roadway looking for clues.

"We did find shell-casings in the road and at the gas station," said Rath.

No arrests have been made and no suspects have been named.

The three other people riding in the El Camino, two women and a man, could be seen handcuffed and in the back of patrol cars at the scene, but officers said none had been charged as of Thursday night.
