Oh, and by the way, there are only 2 explantations for Kathy's accident that might make sense at all, and "swerved to avoid an animal" is not one of them. I mean, get real here! What animal would she have seen in that desert along that road at night? A lizard? No, she was either busy chatting on her cell phone (which I've seen almost cause several accidents myself!) or she was tired and simply fell asleep at the wheel. When people swerve to avoid an animal, they instinctly go towards the direction that will get them away from oncoming traffic - to the right. Since we here on this continent drive on the right, not on the left like in the U.K., people usually go instinctively towards the right. Now, she could have been talking on her cell phone, perhaps to her nephew, brother, parents, or any other relatives that were expecting to know her ETA to where her nephew's program was. But at 2AM? Most likely they would have all been sleeping. No, I'm afraid the most plausible explanation is that she simply fell asleep behind the wheel. And it's no shame for that to happen to anyone. Sometimes people make the mistake of trying to drive straight on when they are tired, because they are eager to reach their destination. Knowing Kathy, she probably WAS eager to get there and share her nephew's moment of triumph. In any case, she made a mistake. And whatever kind it was it cost her, her life. So stop trying to glamorize it by saying she did a selfless act and avoided an animal. Give me a break! An accident is an accident. As much as we all loved her and thought she was great and wonderful, she was only human like the rest of us. I'm not trying be mean here. I loved her, too. And I miss her. But let's get real. People make mistakes.

I also knew her from that Canadian High School, as well as from our church youth group, when we were teenagers. Her parents attend my church here in Canada, although they have not yet returned from California since their trip there early in December. But I know for a fact that Kathy was 48, the same age as me, NOT 47, and definitely not 22!

As you might have already updated, the woman driver killed, Kathy Wetherall, was not 22 (although she looked it), but 47. I knew her years ago, when we went to a Canadian High School together. Of course, the news of her death is stunning and knowing how capable and responsible of a person she is (was) makes it hard to believe that in a moment of reaction she was killed and others were injured. She would have hated that others were hurt and would have thought of their welfare above hers.
