With unemployment at an all time high, many of those affected are turning to volunteering.
Barbara Castillo is in charge of Arizona's Florence Crittenton's volunteer program.
She says she's never seen so many people coming forward to offer their time as she has within the past few months.
"We have had calls daily for people wanting hands on opportunities," said Castillo.
Castillo told ABC15 that such people are willing to do whatever the organization needs.
"They want to volunteer as mentors, they want to be tutors they want to work down at Flo's on 7th, our resale store. We're running out of opportunities," said Castillo.
One person who is choosing to volunteer right now is Bonnie Bell.
Bell volunteers a couple of days a week for the American Red Cross and her reason was based on the job market.
"I'm of an older age so finding a job that will let me work part time is hard," said Bell.
Bell told ABC15, not only is she grateful to be out of the house occupying her time and her mind, but she gets something in return for giving back to her community.
"When I leave here I feel so good about myself and I tell everybody," said Bell.
Bell went on to say, "I don't want to be sitting at home just being depressed and being 'woe is me.'"
So, Bell says, if you've lost a job and can give a little time back to your community, then do it.
"Get off that couch. You have something valuable to give. You know if it's just a few hours a week if it's an hour a week it will make you feel so good about yourself."
