dragnfly75-WHAT! Its plain and simple watch out for bad drivers (which AZ is full of) think before you turn. As for the article. What is so hard about staying away from that big train? If ya see it stay away.

cpriewe, we're not discussing whether or not the Light Rail should have been built, we're discussing a car and train collision. Stay on topic!

http://www.valleymetro.org/images/uploads/lightrail_publications/METRO_safety__brochure.pdf go here for instructions on how to read the new signals for this thing..... if you are still confused after reading the brochure, then take your car, sell it, destroy your drivers license, and dont get on the roads

I've lived here nearly 5 years now. came from a one main street town in New Hampshire. been called a bad driver even though i have battled 1 ft of snow on the roads and white out conditions. rear ending someone does not make you a bad driver, just makes you either a) to poor to fix your breaks b) battling rush hour traffic c) a little of both. hitting someone turning left isn't always black and white either. I been hit turning left when the other driver ran a red light speeding in the rain. insurance rates so freaking high because you get a citation when its not your fault and for every accident someone else has it adds to your policy as well. I have never seen so many bad drivers and so many near misses as I have in this city.

Hey Mix -the Density has a lot to do with the Success of this badly thoughtout boondoggle ! The federal feasibility study said NO ! Due to the lack of density it won't work ! But the Powers That Be said" we're going to build it anyway" -" Screw the taxpayers" --"Screw the Feasibility study" "after all: "'It's only taxpayers money and it will look Exotic on the Tourist propaganda we send out !

I see everyone's point... except for cpriewe.... I think the main problems are; A. Noone was really informed on how this system works, the warning signals and the such. It is everyones responsibility to get their own information, but sending out a 1 page brochure on the new signals and all the would have been cheap and probably lessen the amount of confusion. B. no one seems to be able to see a 20 ton 15 foot tall 30 foot long silver bullet coming at them, and they seem to have a problem seeing a 10 foot color change on the pavement indicating the tracks are right there. If people are so concerned about running into these things go online print out a copy of the new signals and such for this and stop being concerned. below is a link to a brochure you can download and find information about what signals mean what. hope this helps http://www.valleymetro.org/images/uploads/lightrail_publications/METRO_safety__brochure.pdf

Motorists are not confused, they are just selfish idiots who don't pay attention anymore cause they think their piddly phone conversation or eye shadow is more important. I like how the lenient rules of this country are add to compounding chaos as time goes on. I think the driving age should be raised to 18 and more stringent drivers education qualifications be implemented.

The biggest problem involved in the light rail being set up in Phoenix is that it's being set up around an already existing transit system. Chicago was built around the L train, as were other major cities built around their train systems, subway systems, etc. Phoenix is trying to incorporate a train in the middle of a well established transit system, which is bound to have issues regardless of the intelligence of drivers in the state.

cpriewe, your comments make no sense. First, Sumguy said "here in AZ", which makes me think he's from Arizona. Second, there is a comparison between Boston, Baltimore and Phoenix; they all have light rail running on city streets. Population density has nothing to do with it. If people would pay attention to the road, watch for the trains and obey the signals they wouldn't be crashing into Light Rail trains!
