PHOENIX -- A prisoner being transported to a Phoenix jail on Friday got away from police, but was caught about a half hour later, according to officials.
Officer Luis Samudio said a Phoenix police officer was taking the prisoner to the Estrella Jail near 35th Avenue and Durango Street around 12:45 p.m. when the suspect was able to escape from the vehicle.
Police said the man had been picked up on outstanding felony warrants during a traffic stop and was handcuffed in the back of the patrol vehicle.
He was reportedly able to somehow move his hands from behind and get out of the vehicle.
Police set up a perimeter and searched the area, capturing the man in a nearby car lot about 1:15 p.m.
He has not been identified by police.
