PHOENIX -- A Phoenix police officer was taken to the hospital Monday after he drove his car into a ditch, officials said.

Phoenix Police Spokesperson Trent Crump said the officer was traveling eastbound on Buckeye Road near 63rd Avenue Monday night following another vehicle.

The vehicle stopped short and the officer, in an attempt to avoid a collision, took evasive manuevers and ended up in a nearby ditch, according to officials.
