PHOENIX -- A neighbor helped rescue a mother and her two daughters from a burning Phoenix home Friday morning.

The flames ignited at the home near 19th and Southern avenues around 1 a.m.

A neighbor said he heard some noise and looked outside to see the house next door on fire.

Dorian Jackson with the Phoenix Fire Department said three females, including a 32-year-old, 16-year-old, and 15-year-old, were trapped inside the home because protective bars were covering the windows.

The neighbor, Joe Lopez, said he was able to pull the bars from the windows to help the women get out and they were moved to safety by the time fire crews arrived.

"I did what I had to do," Lopez said. "I don't consider myself a hero, I'm just a neighbor."

All three victims were transported to a Valley hospital. Lopez was treated for smoke inhalation, the women were treated for burns.

They were all expected to be OK.
