DEER VALLEY, AZ -- A North Valley school bus driver accused of texting on her cell phone while transporting children has been pulled from driving, but not suspended.
According to Deer Valley School District spokesperson Heidi Vega, the district is now looking at bus surveillance tapes and interviewing children who ride the bus.
"We take it very seriously," said Kent Davis, the Associate Superintendent.
Vega said it is not clear whether the district will gain access to the woman's cell phone records.
"She drives with half an eye on the road," said Lisa Krawec, whose children ride the bus. "It's absurd, and it needs to end now."
Krawec said she complained to the school transportation department when her children told her what they observed.
Several children who ride the bus told ABC15 they've witnessed the driver using the cell phone and trying to hide it near her leg.
"All the kids say they can see the phone on her lap," said Karen Gesualdo, whose children also ride the bus.
School officials said the bus driver transports students in eighth grade and younger.
Vegas said the bus driver denies any wrongdoing.
