PHOENIX -- A body was found in a North Phoenix dumpster Saturday afternoon after a passerby noticed a foul smell, according to officials.

Phoenix Police Spokesperson Trent Crump said a man was dumping materials behind a vacant business complex near 51st Avenue and Bell Road when he noticed a bad odor emanating from the dumpster and called police.

Officials said investigators arrived at the scene and discovered the body of an unidentified male in a container near the dumpster.

Crump said the body and object it was contained in were sent to the Medical Examiner's Office.

According to Crump, there is no additional information available about the victim, the cause or time of death or suspects.

He said police hope to have more information available Monday.
