PHOENIX – A man was sentenced to 21 years in prison for the attempted murder of his wife, according to Maricopa County Attorney Andrew Thomas on Tuesday.

Tempe police arrested 32-year-old Paul Robledo on February 7th, 2009 after he reportedly stabbed his wife in the throat and stomach with a box cutter and kitchen knife.

His wife survived the attack.

On February 12, 2009 he was indicted on a charge of Attempted First Degree Murder and pled guilty as charged on January 4.

On Monday the court gave him the maximum sentence of 21 years behind bars.

Thomas stated, "Domestic violence in any form cannot be tolerated, especially when it involves the use of deadly weapons as occurred here."
