PHOENIX – A 12-year-old boy from California is able to walk again thanks to doctors at St. Joseph’s Hospital in Phoenix.
Jesse Cook suffered from a rare spinal condition that could have left him completely paralyzed.
The 7th grader first knew something was wrong in September when he started having severe pain in his arm, which paralyzed him for 15 hours.
Jesse's parents rushed him to the emergency room where he was diagnosed and brought to Arizona so neurosurgeons could remove a lesion on his spine.
Jesse says, “Once they told me that it was gone. That they got the whole thing out, the first thing I said was 'Can I play football again?'”
Jesse is still at the hospital recovering, but doctors think he will be able to play football again.
But whether or not his parents let him is a different question.
Jesse says his family is a little worried because one slight injury could put him back in the hospital or worse yet, leave him paralyzed.
He is scheduled to head back home Wednesday.
