PHOENIX, ARIZ -- The Arizona Animal Welfare League wants dog owners to take their pets on a walk in the park to help save lives.
This Saturday, AAWL is holding it's annual
Walk to Save Animals, which raises funds to rescue abandoned and homeless pets.
It features a 2K & 5K Pet Walk, along with "food, fun and activities for the whole family."
AAWL calls it their most important event to save animals in the Valley. The 2008 walk attracted more than 1,500 people, along with about 750 dogs.
This year’s event will include PetZone booths, games, prizes, dogs for adoption and a “doggie dating game” to find your perfect match.
In addition, AAWL/SPCA will be offering low-cost vaccinations for dogs (Rabies, DHPP, and Bordetella vaccines are $14 per vaccine or all three for $40).
The event also will feature an “alumni parade” with dogs that have been adopted from AAWL/SPCA and their owners
As the state’s largest and oldest no-kill shelter, AAWL/SPCA uses funds raised from the event to provide temporary homes for thousands of dogs and cats each year — many of them rescued shortly before they are scheduled to be euthanized at other facilities.
AAWL/SPCA has set a goal of saving at least 2009 animals in 2009.
