PHOENIX – On Friday, almost 100 volunteers from the Unity of Phoenix Church provided dinner and an evening of entertainment to more than 1,500 homeless individuals in the Valley.

The dinner was held at the Lodestar Day Resource Center on Jackson Street.

Unity volunteers served over 900 pounds of hamburger, 200 pounds each of potato and macaroni salads, 1,500 cookies/ice cream cups and potato chips, cold drinks and some TLC.

Church volunteers said they worked with 12 shelters in the Phoenix area for tonight’s festive event.

The Church held a similar event in March and had such good feedback that they decided to host tonight’s gathering.

Volunteers also work with local restaurants for donations like bakeries for day old bread to provide to food banks.

Many of the church’s volunteers said giving has a way of making them feel better about themselves and is very easy.

Karen Robinson said, “You don’t have to go too far to find somebody that needs help.”
