PHOENIX -- Heroes to Hometowns and St. Mary's Food Bank Alliance are working together to make sure the families of deployed, injured, or active military will be able to celebrate Thanksgiving with a tasty turkey donation.

They began handing out food boxes Sunday, to as many as 2,000 families in an effort to help them enjoy a nice holiday meal.

Pre-selected families of wounded and injured military, deployed service members, and active military started picking up their boxes at the 52nd St. Armory near McDowell Rd.

"St. Mary's is proud of our brave military and the opportunity to distribute holiday boxes on behalf of those who support our mission," said Terry Shannon, the Food Bank's President and CEO, in a press release.

"For those who have protected our country, are currently keeping us safe or stand at the ready, we are indebted to their service and remember their sacrifice," Shannon said.
