PHOENIX -- A car wash to benefit families of local police and firefighters just about stopped traffic at a Phoenix intersection Saturday.

Workers from the Grill Next Door, at 44th Street and Thomas Road, were washing cars to benefit the 100 Club, an organization that helps support families of officers and firefighters killed in the line of duty.

Sami Sweeney from the restaurant said the six girls helping out this Saturday washed nearly 75 cars between 11 a.m. and 3:30 p.m.

Sweeney said they have raised over $1,000 in three car washes so far.

The car washes are held once a month and the next will be July 18, she said.

The traffic-stopping event was helped out by drivers who knew about the car wash and others who just stopped in as they drove by.
