The survey was most likely bogus. The "pollsters" have since been identified as frauds.

Kathy2az/cactusjumper-"The teachers are only the tip of the problem. Parents and school administrators who have changed the curriculum to be able to "get the attention" of today's youth have really missed the boat." It's all about the AIMS test results. They focus so hard on the kids getting high scores they forget to tech most of the subject. High scores=good teacher, so they think.

A lot of teachers in this state are bottom feeders of the education system compaired to other states. Hell, look at the polititions, that speaks for this situation. Most of these teachers can't pass this test either but don't spout about we need better education when thier agenda is more on things that have NOTHING to do with education. I've met LOTSA H.S.(Arizona) graduates that I would rather just give a crayola to and let them be happy cuz they're smart as a rock.

The teachers are only the tip of the problem. Parents and school administrators who have changed the curriculum to be able to "get the attention" of today's youth have really missed the boat. I fear what the country will be like in 20 years with unintelligent people in charge. I would not be a teacher because parents seem to not care that their child has a cell phone and is texting during class, talking during class, skipping school or treating others rudely. No one is to say anything to these brats who think they rule the world. Sorry kids you don't. Parents need to stop trying to be teenageers themselves or be their kids friend (my parents where not and are not my friends, they are my parents who love me). I excelled in school and knew it was an expectation not to fail.

IDEA: why not make a perfect score a requirement for HS diploma?

Maybe because of the huge percentage of anchor babies who have flooded the Arizona school systems.

Gee after you made your snotty remark about a QuikTrip employee I did not need to use my “imagination.” All one need do is type com, org, or net behind the business name and hit enter. So I visited the QuikTrip web site. Since all teachers are not in management they are entering as an employee. So I compared a part time employee entry level job to a teacher entering the school district. A relief/Night assistant entry level job is a management job so pay is usually higher for that. You know kind of like principal, or school district administrator. I also used the average pay for AZ, not the nation. AZ ranks 26 in teacher pay. Comparing the hours a clerk works to a teacher is needed here. “ While teachers don't work all-year around, they also don't get paid all-year around.” How hard is it for highly educated people to budget their funds? Not to forget that some school districts in AZ will arrange to pay a teacher on a 12 month plan instead of 9. I mean if these highly educated people are not smart enough to manage their budget.

Unfortunately, they don't allow links in these comments (or paragraphs), so, check out the QuikTrip page (use you imagination to work out the URL), while a clerk does make $8.25 an hour, I didn't actually say "clerk", I said "employee". A relief/Night assistant makes $40,800 per year, which is more than the teacher's average you quote. I would argue that no employee at a convenience store is worth more than a teacher on a societal level. Starting salaries for teachers, depending on school district fall into the mid-$20,000s - for a job that requires a degree, mind you - and pay categories are generally organized into three "ladders", you move up based on entirely on years of service rather than performance. You can move over to the next ladder as you gain a higher degree (Master's or Ph.D.) A few other differences: Teachers aren't paid by the hour and work consistently more than 8 hours a day, which makes the hourly comparison to the wages of a QuickTrip employee even more absurd. While teachers don't work all-year around, they also don't get paid all-year around. That's not a good thing, when you're trying to live on it. It's still your annual salary and you have to live on it.

if you can read this...thank a teacher.

A Part-Time Clerk at QuikTrip starts at $ 8.25 an Hr. From a web site called TeachingTips.com Average Teacher Salary in AZ (Bachelor’s Degree): $38,000 Just which one is making more money? Let us not forget the number of hours teachers work a week. Let us not forget how many months out of the year teachers work. So this over paid clerk at QuikTrip can make maybe $18,000 a yr if they get 40 hrs a week, and work all year round.
