PHOENIX, AZ – Phoenix police responded to a very different kind of call on Thursday that involved underprivileged students and a large future investment.

Charities with the Phoenix Law Enforcement Association gave a $1,000 donation to aid several student athletes of Teleos Preparatory Academy in Phoenix.

The money was provided to help support the third and fourth grade track athletes in the school’s running club.

The club was apparently running so low on funds that students were forced to practice in school shoes instead of proper running shoes.

“They needed help,” said Mark Spencer, the President of PLEA. “And that's a delight when Phoenix police officers can step in and meet a need like that.”

In addition to a monetary donation, PLEA is also furnishing the school with medical personnel to give student athletes medical exams.

The Teleos Preparatory School running club plans to host a 5K run at the academy in the spring.
