PHOENIX -- Union Distributing, Solar Hawk Energy, Wilson Electric and Salt River Project unveiled Union Distributing’s combined 253-killowatt Solar Energy Rooftop solar energy plant today.
Union Distributing’s $1.6 million 253-kilowatt project will produce approximately 400,000 kilowatt hours per year and serve both the Phoenix and Tucson facilities upwards of 85 to 90 percent of their energy consumption. The benefits from the solar energy production to both the Arizona environment and the health of Arizonans as the solar energy produced annually will prevent the release of up to 800,000 pounds of carbon dioxide per year.
The project was made possible, in part, by a rebate from the SRP Earthwise Solar program for commercial customers.
The solar energy system will also preserve approximately 200,000 gallons of water used annually that would have formerly been needed and withdrawn from Arizona’s watersheds.
