PHOENIX -- Keep some spare change if your car's astray. Parking tickets in downtown Phoenix are expected to rise.
It would bring the typical fine from $31 to $57 dollars.
City officials insist they are just keeping pace with stiffer fines across the Valley and the U.S. But they admit they are looking at public safety related fee increases to help the city recover lost sales tax revenue.
The higher penalties are expected to generate $655,000 a year for the city.
The fines for disabled parking spot violations would go from $250 to $460, the largest in the Valley.
Phoenix police say downtown congestion and construction have created more problems lately. The city council will review the plan in the next few weeks.
